The Art Department houses a rich collection of outstanding works which comprises about 15,000 exhibits. The following collections are of great value: the collection of foreign painting which includes the Dąmbski gallery (featuring paintings from Western Europe) and the Gallery of Polish Painting. The department also showcases a collection of Polish and European graphics, a small collection of 18th-century graphics by foreign artists as well as handicraft objects – furniture, ceramics, porcelain and earthenware, glass, silver, tin and a set of hanging brass candleholders from the 17th–18th century, items of clothing (including a collection of elegant female clothes) as well as fabrics, embroidery, lace and a rare collection of jewellery to accompany kontusz, a type of garment. The Art Department also houses works produced after 1945 (oil paintings, drawings, graphics, artistic photographs, and sculptures).
